Determining what to wear for your senior pictures may be the hardest decision you make in regards to your pictures overall. When and where is something that isn’t as front and center in your images as your outfit is. Your outfit represents you the most in your senior pictures, and that is why it is one of my favorite parts! While I can’t go shopping with you to find the most perfect outfit here is advice that I have for you to follow while you are making this decision.
This is the MOST important part of picking an outfit for your senior pictures. You need to be fully comfortable in the outfits you choose. If something feels small or squeezes you in an area that isn’t comfortable, don’t wear it. If an outfit is so far out of your comfort zone that you aren’t confident wearing it, don’t wear it. If an outfit highlights a part of your body that you don’t love, don’t wear it. If you aren’t comfortable in your outfit, it will be harder to achieve images that you look your best in. When you are comfortable, it shows in every aspect.
If you don’t like wearing dresses, don’t wear a dress. If you don’t like wearing jeans, don’t wear jeans. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ outfit for your senior pictures. The overall purpose of your senior pictures is to showcase who you are. Don’t put a mask on that in your outfit. Pick something that makes you confident!
Your senior picture package comes with multiple outfits and locations. This is so we can show multiple aspects of your personality. It’s great to have one outfit that is a nicer/dressier outfit and then an outfit that is a little more casual. This often looks like a dress for one location and jeans and a blouse/sweater for another location. It can look like wearing your future college tshirt to one location and jeans and a blouse/sweater to another location. It can look a lot of different ways! Your senior pictures will be used for a variety of purposes throughout your senior year. Mixing up your outfits will ensure that you have photos for every purpose.
There is nothing wrong with wearing jeans and a simple black top to your senior photo session. Your outfit doesn’t need to be an extravagant new outfit. Can it be? Yes! Does it have to be? No. Simple outfits can allow you to shine even more. If you find yourself really agonizing over what you should wear, go back to the basics and keep it simple. Your photos will look amazing no matter what.
I know, I know. You are not looking forward to hanging out with me. I get it. Senior pictures are something your mom is probably forcing you to do. But I promise it will not be as bad as you are making it out to be in your head. I will keep your session short, sweet and fun. When you are deciding what to wear all of the above tips apply. Wear something you are comfortable in and you can keep it simple! If you would like to incorporate any of your sports or hobbies, wear your uniform. Leave the sweatpants and t-shirt with your favorite football team at home. Instead wear your jeans and a simple solid colored polo/dress shirt or plaid shirt. You can then mix it up and dress a little nicer with a pair of khakis and a button down. This outfit is also great for getting a headshot to use on scholarship applications! You have lots of options in what you can wear, but most importantly wear what you can be comfortable in! 🙂
At the end of the day, know that there is NOT a wrong thing to wear. You can’t make a bad choice in this department. Pick out something new or wear your favorite outfit that you have had for two years! Wear what you are confident and comfortable in and we will have so much fun. I can’t wait to see what you pick out to wear for your session!
