Every year in January, I put together 50+ of my favorite images from the year and then have my Instagram followers vote on which image is their favorite. Images are put head to head and everyday half of the photos are eliminated. It’s a traditional bracket style of voting. This is one of my FAVORITE things I do every year. Going back through the year to pick my top images is SO HARD. I take thousands upon thousands of images every year and I love them all for different reasons. I do my best to pick a variety of images from different seasons, locations, client types, etc. It’s really fun seeing what images stand out to you guys. Sometimes my absolute favorites make the top and sometimes ones that I didn’t expect to make the finals, do. This year we started with 62 top images for 2023, and these are the ones that made the top EIGHT. <3
#8 – Dulaney Bennett
Cap & gown graduation photos have a very special place in my heart. Especially when they are with one of my senior reps. It’s the closing of a chapter that I have truly loved celebrating my clients in. And let’s be real, you can not go wrong with a simple white dress for a photo session.
#7 – Violet Erhart
It’s hard to believe this photo was taken in the middle of December. With the bright sun and blue sky, it doesn’t look nearly as cold as it actually was. I LOVE this image and was so thrilled when it got into the top.
#6 – Mr & Mrs Davisson – Lakeview Weddings
This willow tree is the perfect backdrop for wedding portraits at Lakeview Weddings. It provides some shade for mid-afternoon portraits and it’s even better when we catch the sun peeking through. This is just one of the stunning portraits we took at this willow tree for their wedding day.
#5 – Bree & Matthew
The tippy toes. The cheesy grins. The barefeet in the creek. The perfect color palette. I loveeeee the way this photo makes me feel! It’s just the sweetest, unscripted moment between these two.
#4 – Lakyn Thomas
A moment for the sunset.
An even longer moment for Lakyn.
This pond is the BEST spot for a gorgeous sunset reflection. Lakyn was more than willing to get her feet (& dress) wet so we could achieve the perfect little ripples surrounding her. This image will probably be one of my favorites for a very long time.
#3 – Breckett & Treyton
These two high school lovers wanted a classic session with some western roots. Breckett’s little foot pop and Wrangler jeans makes me swoon. The sun rays coming through may be the star of the show, but I truly love every aspect of this image.
#2 – Kiley Shoot
Truthfully, I thought this image would be THE top image for 2023. You can’t go wrong with a flower field, a bouquet, a soft smile and a sunset peeking through. It is all of the elements that often bring together my favorite images. It was actually really hard for me to select only one image from this session to put in my favorite images from the year. I was thrilled and not surprised when this image made it this far in the voting.
#1 – Rachel & Matt – Engagement Photos
This photo makes me feel ALLLL the feels and I could not contain my excitement when this image was voted to be THE image from 2023. I love everything about it and it warmed my heart to know that everyone else loved it just as much. Rachel & Matt love to read together. They share the same love of books and have used this to become even closer as a couple. It was really special to incorporate that into their engagement photos. If it wasn’t weird to hang photos of other people on your walls, I would absolutely be hanging this photo in my house. <3
2023 was amazing and full of so many incredible images. Putting images against each other often feels so unfair and cruel, because how could I say one image is better than the other! But I love having everyone voice a little bit of their opinion on what they really love about my images. If you want to be a part of the vote next year, follow me on Instagram here! If you want to possibly be the subject of one of my favorite images next year, inquire with me here. 🙂
